WHAT IT IS
WalletCore is INM's e-money core banking platform - a full double-entry accounting engine for digital wallets, not a satellite bolted onto another system. Each wallet is identified by a phone number and can be created automatically - the first time it receives a transfer from another wallet or a bank account - or explicitly, with the customer supplying additional KYC data for higher transaction limits. Every wallet account carries its own accounting balances (ledger, available, held/cativo, authorised), and every operation is broken down into movements that must net to zero, posted against the platform's own chart of accounts. The total of all wallets is then mirrored against a single fiduciary account in the bank's traditional core, for settlement and audit - WalletCore does the accounting; the traditional core just holds the guarantee. It connects to USSD, SMS, mobile app and internet banking channels, and to top-ups over whichever card network a market runs - EMIS/Multicaixa in Angola, or another domestic switch - so a bank can extend digital banking to customers and non-customers alike. The fiduciary account can sit in Banka, Finastra Essence or an in-house legacy core; the link is an adapter, not a core change.
WHY IT MATTERS
E-money core banking for banks, EMIs and mobile-money operators: phone-number identified wallets with tiered KYC, cash-in/cash-out across bank transfers, card-network top-ups and cash, and a double-entry accounting engine of its own - mirrored, not dependent, against a fiduciary account in whichever core the bank runs: Banka, Finastra Essence or in-house legacy.
ADVANTAGES
A wallet can be opened with nothing more than a phone number, and grows into a fully verified account as the customer adds identity data - reaching mass-market customers who don't have a bank account yet.
WalletCore keeps its own chart of accounts and posts every operation as balanced, double-entry movements - client wallets and internal accounting accounts alike. The bank's traditional core only holds a single fiduciary account, as a mirror for settlement and audit - not the system of record.
USSD and SMS for feature phones, the bank's own mobile app, internet banking and tablet - the same wallet, balance and history on every channel, with authentication adapted to each one.
A dedicated backoffice gives external agents a limited set of functions - cash-in, cash-out, account opening - so the bank can grow its distribution network without opening every operation to every agent.
FEATURES
Tiered KYC: four onboarding levels - from phone-number-only to in-person - each with its own balance, transaction and annual accumulated-transaction limits.
Its own accounting core: every wallet carries ledger, available, held and authorised balances; every operation posts double-entry movements to the platform's chart of accounts, always net to zero, before mirroring the total against a single fiduciary account in the bank's core.
Cash-in: top up from an account at the same bank, from another bank across the domestic switch (on EMIS/Multicaixa, by ATM or H2H, in real time), or with a cash deposit.
Cash-out: send money to an account at the same bank, to another bank by interbank transfer, or take it out in cash.
Wallet-to-wallet transfers and holds (cativo): place funds on hold for multi-step flows, then confirm, cancel or reverse the operation.
Query services: account, balance and transaction-history lookups across every channel.
Digital-channel integration: wallet accounts show up in the dashboard and integrated position next to core-banking accounts, with dedicated connectors for balance, statement and transfers - as they do in BAIdirecto.
Channel-aware authentication: automatic phone-number recognition for USSD/SMS with a confirmation PIN as second factor; username/password with wallet-linking flows for app and internet banking.
BAI backoffice and agent backoffice: till/cashier and account management and reversals for the bank, plus a limited function set for external agents.
Architecture built to bring financial services to people who don't have a bank account yet, with an accounting core of its own - not a dependent one.
BUILT FOR
Reach the unbanked mass market with wallets that open with just a phone number, growing transaction limits as KYC advances.
Need an e-money accounting core of their own - tiered KYC, a double-entry ledger, and a fiduciary account in the bank's core used only for settlement, not as the system of record.
Need an agent backoffice to distribute cash-in and cash-out without opening every bank operation to third parties.
Want the same wallet available on feature phones and smartphones alike, with authentication suited to each channel.
HOW IT WORKS
A phone number alone is enough, or a phone number plus KYC data. Opened in the bank's app, in internet banking, or by an agent.
Cash-in by bank transfer, over the local card network, or with a cash deposit.
Wallet-to-wallet transfers, holds for multi-step flows and payments, with balance and transaction lookups on any channel.
Every operation posts balanced movements in WalletCore's own ledger; the total is mirrored against a single fiduciary account in the bank's core for settlement and audit.
It's INM's e-money core banking platform: phone-number identified wallets with tiered KYC, cash-in/cash-out via bank transfer, card-network top-up or cash, and its own double-entry accounting engine - mirrored, not dependent, against a single fiduciary account in the bank's traditional core. Accessible via USSD, SMS, app, internet banking and tablet.
Yes. The core connection is adapter-based - Banka, Finastra Essence, an in-house legacy system, whatever is already there - over API/ISO, with no change to the central system. The domestic side works the same way: each market's clearing house, EMIS in Angola included, plugs in through an adapter.
Both. Banks in markets with data-residency requirements usually choose on-premise; SaaS where regulation allows it.
No. A wallet can be created for someone with no bank account at all - automatically on receiving a transfer, or explicitly with just a phone number. Higher transaction limits require additional identity data as the customer moves up the KYC tiers.
